Replacing Paul Splittorff with none out in the first, Marty Pattin pitched nine innings of scoreless relief and breezed home with the victory as the Royals defeated the Indians, 12-2. Splittorff gave up three hits and a walk, with the Indians' runs coming on a bases-loaded single by Rico Carty, before Pattin took over.

The Royals piled up a total of 18 hits, including a homer, two doubles and two singles by Joe Zdeb, who drove in four runs. Amos Otis had a homer, double and single for three RBIs. John Mayberry also hit for the circuit. [The Sporting News]
