Homers by Ellis Valentine and Tony Perez in the first game and by Chris Speier and Andre Dawson in the second game helped the Expos sweep a doubleheader with the Mets, 6-5 and 5-3, before a Canada Day crowd of 33,422. After the Expos took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the opener, Valentine raced out an inside-the-park drive in the third. Perez homered with a man on base in the fifth to provide the winning blow. John Stearns homered for the Mets.

In the nightcap, John Milner hit a two-run homer for the Mets in the first inning, but in the Expos' half, Dave Cash walked and Speier connected for the circuit to tie the score. The Expos added a run in the same stanza to go ahead, 3-2. Stearns drove in a run with a single in the sixth to knot the count, but Dawson completed the sweep with a two-run wallop in the Expos' half. [The Sporting News]
