The Red Sox collected only five hits off Mike Flanagan and lost to the Orioles, 5-2, for their eighth straight defeat. Ken Singleton and Pat Kelly batted in two runs apiece for the Orioles. A double by Al Bumbry and single by Singleton produced the initial run in the first inning before the Red Sox posted their pair with a single by Rick Burleson, pass to Jim Rice, single by Carl Yastrzemski and sacrifice fly by Carlton Fisk.

The Orioles tied the score in the second and went ahead with another double by Bumbry and single by Singleton in the fifth. Kelly iced the decision by hitting a two-run single in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
