. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Fred Stanley, who entered game at shortstop after the Yankees had used a pinch-hitter for Bucky Dent in the seventh inning, came to bat in the eighth and hit his first homer of the season to beat the Tigers, 6-4. A two-run triple by Phil Mankowski and homer by Rusty Staub helped the Tigers take a 4-1 lead before Chris Chambliss got one run back with a four-bagger in the sixth.

The Yankees then tied the score in the seventh when Paul Blair singled, Jim Wynn walked as the pinch-hitter for Dent and Roy White doubled. In the eighth, Graig Nettles singled with one out and Blair sacrificed before Stanley hit his first homer since last August 16 to snap the Tigers' five-game winning streak. [The Sporting News]
