Andy Hassler allowed only one hit and pitched the Royals to a 1-0 victory over the Indians. The Royals scored their run off Dennis Eckersley in the sixth inning when Hal McRae doubled and Pete LaCock singled.

Then, with one out in the Indians' half, Duane Kuiper hit a high bouncer to the third base side of the mound. Hassler fielded the ball but his throw to first base was too late to nail Kuiper. The one-hitter was the second of Hassler's career. In his other effort on September 8, 1974, while with the Angels, the southpaw lost to the White Sox, 1-0. [The Sporting News]
