Hitting his third single of the game, Larry Bowa batted in the Phillies' winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Pirates. Bowa singled and scored in the first inning on an error and sacrifice fly by Greg Luzinski. After hitting another single in the third, Bowa crossed the plate again when Mike Schmidt followed with his 22nd homer of the season.

The Pirates had a chance for a big inning in the fifth but got only one run, tying the score at 3-3, on singles by Dave Parker and Al Oliver and a double by Jim Fregosi. The Phillies then pushed over their winning run in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
