With Greg Luzinski and Richie Hebner accounting for three RBIs apiece, the Phillies scored nine runs in the first three innings and outlasted the Pirates, 11-7. The Phils sent nine men to bat in the first and scored four runs. Luzinski hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, Richie Hebner tripled for two runs and Ted Sizemore singled to bring in Hebner.

Luzinski batted in two runs with a double and Hebner singled for another tally in the second. Triples by Jay Johnstone and Mike Schmidt around a single by Larry Bowa added a pair in the third.
