Capping their attack with a grand slam by Dave Concepcion, the Reds hit four homers for the second game in succession and beat the Braves in a slugfest, 15-13. Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey hit for the circuit in the second when the Reds scored five times. Pete Rose, who had four hits and drove in four runs, made it 6-0 with a homer in the fourth. The Braves bounced back with a six-run rally in their half of the fourth, scoring the tying pair on a round-tripper by pinch-hitter Cito Gaston.

The Reds came back with three runs in the fifth. Gary Matthews homered in the Braves' half. An error by Dan Driessen enabled the Braves to knot the count in the seventh, but the Reds then exploded for six runs in the eighth. After George Foster broke the tie with a two-run single, Bench drew an intentional pass to load the bases and Concepcion followed with his grand slam. [The Sporting News]
