George Brett, who had been sidelined with an infected elbow, came off the Royals' bench as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and delivered a run-scoring single to beat the Brewers, 8-7. The Brewers had a two-run single by Sixto Lezcano and two-run homer by Steve Brye while taking a 7-2 lead before the Royals rallied for three runs in the sixth.

Pete LaCock produced one run with a sacrifice fly and Al Cowens homered with a man on base. Amos Otis tied the score with a pinch-homer in the seventh. Frank White singled in the ninth and Hal McRae walked before Brett ended the game with his winning hit. [The Sporting News]
