Don Stanhouse hit his first major league homer, connecting with the bases loaded for the first grand slam by a pitcher in Expos' history, but the righthander then lost to the Cubs, 8-6, when Greg Gross also hit his first major league homer with two men aboard. In the Expos' second inning, Tony Perez doubled and scored on a single by Warren Cromartie. After a single by Andre Dawson, pass to Wayne Garrett and Tim Blackwell's forceout of Cromartie at the plate, Stanhouse ripped into a pitch by Bill Bonham for his jackpot wallop. Larry Biittner homered for the Cubs with a man on base in the third.

With the Expos ahead, 5-4, the Cubs put two men on base on an error and walk in the sixth before Gross turned things around with his homer. The Cubs added an insurance run in the seventh with singles by Jerry Morales and Steve Ontiveros and a sacrifice fly by Manny Trillo. [The Sporting News]
