Falling short in a ninth-inning rally, the Mets lost to the Expos, 5-4, for their ninth straight defeat. The Expos scored twice in the fourth inning when Jerry Koosman made a wild pickoff attempt with the bases loaded.

Pinch-hitter Jose Morales delivered a sacrifice fly for a run in the seventh and the Expos added two runs in the eighth on a single by Chris Speier, double by Ellis Valentine and single by Gary Carter. Bruce Boisclair hit a two-run pinch-homer for the Mets with two out in the ninth. The Mets then loaded the bases on three walks, but John Stearns flied out to end the game. [The Sporting News]
