Jim Palmer, who tired after pitching 7 1/3 innings, left the game with a 4-1 lead but the Orioles then had to stave off a rally by the Rangers in the ninth to gain a 4-3 victory. Toby Harrah, Juan Beniquez and Bump Wills singled off Dick Drago for a run with one away in the ninth. The Orioles then called on their Martinez relievers, Dennis and Tippy. Bert Campaneris, facing Dennis, forced Wills as the Rangers' second run of the inning scored. Tippy came in and retired Ken Henderson to end the game. [The Sporting News]
