The Red Sox took over first place in the A. L. East, blanking the Indians, 3-0, as Rick Wise hurled his second shutout of the season and Butch Hobson extended his hitting streak to 16 games. All Bosox runs came in the opening canto. Rick Burleson led off with a single and Carl Yastrzemski walked after two were out.
