Al Cowens hit a home run with two out in the 12th inning, enabling the Royals to equal their club record of eight consecutive victories with a 5-4 triumph over the Tigers. The blast was Cowens' 16th of the season, equalling his entire homer output for three previous major league campaigns.

The Tigers had rallied to tie the score with two runs in the bottom of the ninth and again with two runs in the bottom of the tenth, a sacrifice fly by Steve Kemp and single by Jason Thompson driving in runs in the first extra frame. [The Sporting News]
