Rod Gilbreath opened the ninth inning with a homer to give the Braves a 5-4 decision over the Cubs. Trailing, 3-0, in the eighth, the Braves scored four times. Gilbreath and Jerry Royster singled. Willie Hernandez replaced Mike Krukow on the hill for the Cubs. Barry Bonnell walked to fill the bases, Gary Matthews batted in two runs with a single and Willie Montanez doubled to drive in two more.
