Rico Carty hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Indians a 9-8 victory over the Red Sox. The Sox had rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 7-4 and took an 8-7 lead in the sixth on Butch Hobson's double and four walks. But after ace reliever Bill Campbell got two out in the seventh, he walked Andre Thornton before Carty connected. [The Sporting News]
