Mike Cubbage not only turned in a key defensive play but also singled home the Twins' go-ahead run in a 3-1 victory over the Indians. In the fourth inning, the Indians rapped Paul Thormodsgard for three singles and a double but scored only one run. After singles by Andre Thornton, Rico Carty and Bruce Bochte loaded the bases, Cubbage made a backhanded grab of a smash by Ron Pruitt, touched third base to force Carty and threw home to retire Thornton. Fred Kendall followed with a double, driving in Bochte to tie the score at 1-1. The Twins put over the deciding run in the sixth when Butch Wynegar walked and Larry Hisle and Cubbage singled. Dan Ford iced the decision with a homer in the ninth. [The Sporting News] |
