George Hendrick drove in five runs with a homer and two doubles to pace the Padres' 16-hit attack in an 8-6 victory over the Mets. Hendrick doubled to produce two of the Padres' three runs in the first inning. After hitting another double and scoring in the third, Hendrick capped his big game by smashing a homer with two men on base in the sixth. Gene Richards and Dave Roberts also had three hits apiece for the Padres. Roberts batted in two runs. A double by Mike Vail and triple by Lenny Randle each produced two runs for the Mets.
