George Brett ripped into reliever Dave Hamilton's first pitch for a three-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the Royals to a 6-3 victory over the White Sox. The second largest regular-season crowd in Royals' history, 40,099, saw their favorites come from behind after the White Sox scored all their runs in the first inning.

In the home half, Brett tripled and scored on one of Tim Nordbrook's three errors in the game. Fred Patek singled in the seventh and, after being picked off first, reached second by knocking the ball out of Nordbrook's glove. Bob Heise walked, resulting in the exit of Wilbur Wood.
