Jerry Morales drove in four runs with three consecutive doubles to pace the Cubs' scoring in a 10-5 victory over the Padres. Morales' third double came during a six-run explosion in the fourth inning. Steve Ontiveros led off with a double and scored on singles by Manny Trillo and George Mitterwald.

After a sacrifice by Bill Bonham, Ivan DeJesus was passed intentionally to load the bases. Larry Biittner hit a sacrifice fly and Bill Buckner drove in a run with a single to kayo Randy Jones, who made his first start since June 17 after being out with arm trouble.
