Five-hit pitching by Bob Forsch, who got one inning of relief from Butch Metzger, enabled the Cardinals to take the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 3-1, but the Astros came back to win the nightcap, 4-1, behind the five-hit hurling of Tom Dixon, who gained his first major league victory. The Cards got their runs in the first game on singles by Lou Brock and Jerry Mumphrey and a double by Garry Templeton.
