The five-hit pitching of Wayne Garland enabled the Indians to snap their six-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the White Sox. The Indians nicked Wilbur Wood for a run in the first inning on a safe bunt by Duane Kuiper, two infield outs and a single by Andre Thornton.

A walk and singles by Bill Melton, Ron Pruitt and Paul Dade added a pair in the third before the White Sox scored their lone run on a double by Ralph Garr and single by Alan Bannister. The Indians chased Wood in the fifth and counted their final runs on a single by Fred Kendall with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by Kuiper. [The Sporting News]
