The first three batters in the Astros' order, Terry Puhl, Enos Cabell and Cesar Cedeno, collected eight hits among them in a 7-5 victory over the Giants. Puhl singled twice and scored two runs. Cabell had three singles, scoring three runs and driving in one. But Cedeno provided the biggest punch with three doubles.

Cedeno knocked in two runs with a double in the fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4. After the Giants regained the lead, Cedeno knotted the count again with another double in the seventh and scored on a single by Jose Cruz to put the Astros ahead to stay.
