Bake McBride rapped a homer and two other hits, plus a sacrifice fly, and Jim Kaat helped himself with three hits before needing relief from Gene Garber as the Phillies defeated the Expos, 10-5. The Expos scored two runs off Kaat in the first inning, but the Phillies picked up a matching pair in their half and then erupted for four runs in the second.

Kaat batted in one run with a double, McBride followed with his homer and before the inning ended Jay Johnstone added a tally with a sacrifice fly. The Expos chased Kaat in the sixth while scoring two runs, but Garber brought the rally to an end by inducing Warren Cromartie to ground into a double play. [The Sporting News]
