Two walks issued by Will McEnaney in the ninth inning led to the defeat of the Expos when Jerry Mumphrey drove in a run with a double to give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory. Lou Brock singled in the first and stole his 22nd base of the season and 887th of his career to set up the Cards' initial run.

The Expos tied the score with a single by Andre Dawson and double by Tony Perez in the seventh. McEnaney walked Ted Simmons with one away in the ninth. After Rick Bosetti came in to run for Simmons, Mike Anderson also drew a pass before Mumphrey hit his double. [The Sporting News]
