Richie Zisk socked two solo homers and Eric Soderholm drove in three runs with a double to lift the White Sox back into first place in the West Division with a 6-5 victory over the Rangers. The Twins, who lost to the Tigers, 2-1, slipped one-half game behind the Pale Hose.

Mike Hargrove homered for the Rangers in the first inning. The first of Zisk's two blasts tied the score in the second before the White Sox erupted for four runs in the fifth. After a walk to Oscar Gamble and singles by Lamar Johnson and Chet Lemon loaded the bases, Soderholm smashed his double. Alan Bannister drove in Soderholm with the fourth run of the frame. Jim Sundberg a hit two-run homer for the Rangers in their half of the fifth, but Zisk's second circuit clout of the game provided the White Sox with their winning run in the eighth.
