When right fielder Jack Clark lost a routine short fly by Johnny Bench with two out in the ninth inning, the ball fell for a bases-loaded triple and gave the Reds a 3-1 victory over the Giants. Doubles by Tim Foli and Jim Barr produced the Giants' run in the second.

Barr, who was working on a three-hit shutout, got two out in the ninth before Ken Griffey beat out a bunt and Joe Morgan singled. Gary Lavelle took over in relief, walked Bob Bailey and then appeared to have saved game on Bench's fly until the sun came to the Reds' rescue. [The Sporting News]
