Milt Wilcox allowed only three hits in the first eight innings and Steve Foucault pitched hitless relief in the final frame as the Tigers defeated the Twins, 2-1. The victory was Wilcox' fourth in a row since coming up from Evansville (American Association) June 22.

A single by Steve Kemp and double by John Wockenfuss produced the Tigers' first run in the second inning. The Twins tied the score with singles by Roy Smalley and Rod Carew and a sacrifice fly by Lyman Bostock in the fourth. The Tigers then won with an unearned run in the fifth when Tom Veryzer reached third on two errors by Mike Cubbage and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tito Fuentes. [The Sporting News]
