Taking turns at hitting homers, the Giants won the first game of a doubleheader, 6-1, before the Reds came back to take the second game, 9-3. Five of the Giants' runs in the opener came on round-trippers. Willie McCovey hit for the circuit with a man on base in the fourth inning and Darrell Evans added a pinch-homer with two aboard in the fifth.

In the nightcap, Joe Morgan drove in five runs for the Reds with a pair of homers including a grand slam, and Cesar Geronimo added a three-run drive. Morgan hit his jackpot wallop off Charlie Williams in the fifth inning. His second homer and Geronimo's blow came off Lynn McGlothen in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
