Butch Hobson not only socked a three-run homer, but also singled and scored the deciding run as the Red Sox defeated the Royals, 5-3. Hobson's homer in the fourth inning put the Red Sox ahead, 3-2, but Frank White tied the score with a double in the seventh.

Hobson led off with his single in the seventh. Dwight Evans sacrificed. Hobson advanced to third on an infield hit by Denny Doyle and scored the tie-breaking run when Rick Burleson singled. Fred Lynn added an extra run with a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
