The Indians bunched four of their six hits and scored two runs in the second inning to defeat the Athletics, 2-1. The A's counted their run off Al Fitzmorris in the first on singles by Marty Perez, Mitchell Page and Manny Sanguillen.

Andre Thornton singled in the Indians' second, took third on a single by Bruce Bochte and scored as Bill Melton erased Bochte by grounding into a double play. Paul Dade followed with a single, stole second and crossed the plate with the deciding run when Ray Fosse singled. The A's put two men on base with one out in the ninth, but Jim Kern earned his 15th save by retiring the last two batters. [The Sporting News]
