Leading off in the ninth inning, Al Oliver smashed a homer off Rollie Fingers to give the Pirates a 7-6 victory over the Padres. The Pirates, who had an earlier homer by Bill Robinson, went ahead, 6-5, with two runs in the eighth on a pass to Duffy Dyer, a wild throw by Mike Ivie on a sacrifice bunt by Frank Taveras and sacrifice fly by Fernando Gonzalez. Gene Tenace tied the score with a homer in the ninth before Oliver won the game with his homer on the first pitch thrown to him by Fingers. [The Sporting News]
