. . . where the 1970s live forever!

With the aid of two unearned runs, the Indians beat Nolan Ryan in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-3, but the Angels came back to win the second game, 5-2. Ryan struck out 10, marking the 102nd time that the Angels' ace had fanned 10 or more batters in one game. However victory escaped Ryan on an error by Jerry Remy in the fifth inning after the Angels had given him a 3-2 lead. Paul Dade and Duane Kuiper led off the stanza with singles. After Buddy Bell forced Kuiper, Dade scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Andre Thornton. Remy then muffed a grounder by Rico Carty, scoring Bell, and another run followed on singles by Bruce Bochte and Larvell Blanks.

In the nightcap, Dave Chalk drove in the Angels' first two runs with a bases-loaded single in the fourth inning and added a third RBI with another single in the eighth. Ken Brett held the Indians to five hits in seven innings before Dyar Miller and Dave LaRoche finished up. [The Sporting News]
