After the pitching of Vida Blue and batting of Jerry Tabb produced a 3-1 victory in the first game, the Athletics scored an unearned run in the 10th inning of the second game and beat the Tigers, 6-5, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader. Tabb drove in two runs in the opener with a single and homer, while Blue pitched a four-hitter in a duel with Dave Rozema.

In the nightcap, the A's had homers by Jim Tyrone and Jeff Newman while taking a 5-3 lead, but the Tigers tied the score in the eighth inning on a pass with the bases loaded and a wild pitch. Mitchell Page drew a pass from John Hiller in the A's 10th and stole second with two away before Wayne Gross walked.
