Although held to only three hits by Ed Halicki, the Cardinals were able to defeat the Giants, 3-2, behind the effective hurling of John Urrea and Al Hrabosky. Urrea worked 7 2/3 innings and yielded four hits, including a leadoff homer by Derrel Thomas.

The Cardinals came back in their half of the first with their three hits off Halicki, scoring twice on back-to-back triples by Jerry Mumphrey and Garry Templeton and a single by Ted Simmons. Halicki walked Mike Anderson in the fourth and then beat himself with a wild pitch after Anderson stole second and reached third on an infield out. [The Sporting News]
