. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Rangers, who got three-hit pitching from Gaylord Perry and Adrian Devine in the opener and hitless relief from Len Barker in the nightcap, swept a twi-night doubleheader, 3-0 and 6-3, to extend the Red Sox' losing streak to seven games. Perry allowed only one hit, a double by Butch Hobson, in the first five innings of the lidlifter, while Devine gave up a pair of singles by Fred Lynn in the last four frames. After having four runners thrown out at the plate, the Rangers scored twice off Mike Paxton in the fifth inning on doubles by Bump Wills and Jim Sundberg and a single by Kurt Bevacqua. A pass to Mike Hargrove, an infield out and single by John Ellis added a counter in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Barker, who pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out seven, gained the victory when Jim Mason homered in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Juan Beniquez doubled and Tom Grieve singled for another run in the eighth before Claudell Washington wrapped up the scoring with a homer in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
