. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Hector Torres hit a three-run homer in the first game and batted in three more runs with a double and single in the second game as the Blue Jays defeated the Mariners, 7-0 and 9-3, in a twi-night doubleheader. Jerry Garvin pitched the first shutout of his major league career in the opener. The Blue Jays had a homer by Ron Fairly in the second inning and another by Doug Rader in the fifth before Torres hit for the circuit in the seventh after a pass to Otto Velez and single by Ron Fairly.

In the nightcap, the Mariners took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a homer by Leroy Stanton, but the Blue Jays got one back on a double by Rader and single by Torres in the second before Rader tied the score with a round-tripper in the fourth. After Fairly hit a two-run single in the fifth, the Blue Jays scored five times in the seventh, two crossing the plate on a double by Torres and two on a single by Rick Cerone. [The Sporting News]
