Smashing a 4-4 tie, Bobby Bonds homered with a man on base in the 11th inning as the Angels scored three runs to defeat the Tigers, 7-4. Jerry Remy had an earlier homer for the Angels, who failed to hold a 4-1 lead. The Tigers counted twice in the eighth on a homer by Bob Adams, double by Rusty Staub and single by Steve Kemp before tying the score in the ninth on a single by John Wockenfuss and double by Aurelio Rodriguez.

In the 11th, Remy walked and Bonds followed with his 31st homer of the season to decide the game in the Angels' favor. Don Baylor later scored on a double by Gil Flores to account for an additional run. [The Sporting News]
