Rick Reuschel, who pitched seven innings, drove in two runs with a single to help himself to his 18th victory as the Cubs defeated the Giants, 5-2. Willie Hernandez, who replaced Reuschel, ran into immediate trouble and Bruce Sutter finished the game, earning his 25th save but his first since July 16 in his second appearance since coming off the disabled list. After Reuschel hit his single in the second inning, the Cubs got their other runs on homers.
