Rod Carew, who was stopped on his 14-game hitting streak in the previous night's game with the Yankees, got back in stride with a pair of doubles to pace the Twins to a 6-4 victory over the Red Sox. Carew's first double accounted for two runs in the fifth inning.

Rich Chiles, who had driven in a run with a single in the fourth, rapped a homer in the sixth to give the Twins a 4-1 lead. After the Red Sox rallied to tie the score in the seventh, Carew doubled in the eighth and crossed the plate when Lyman Bostock singled.
