With the bases loaded, Cesar Cedeno beat the throw to the plate on a grounder by Art Howe in the 10th inning to enable the Astros to defeat the Expos, 6-5. Tony Perez hit two homers and drove in three runs for the Expos, who were stopped on their five-game winning streak.

After Ken Boswell singled and Ed Herrmann doubled to score in the ninth, Cedeno doubled to open the 10th and Jose Cruz was passed intentionally. After the runners advanced on an infield out by Bob Watson, another pass to Joe Ferguson loaded the bases and set the stage for the Astros' winning run on Howe's grounder to Larry Parrish.
