. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Reds won in a duel between Tom Seaver and Steve Carlton when Dave Concepcion and Dan Driessen rapped run-scoring singles in the seventh inning to beat the Phillies, 4-2. Seaver yielded only five hits but had unusual control trouble, walking eight. Carlton gave up nine hits in seven innings. Greg Luzinski hit his 32nd homer of the season, but the first of his career off Seaver, in the third inning.

Two walks, a sacrifice fly by Ted Sizemore and sacrifice fly by Carlton produced the Phils' other run in the sixth. Pete Rose accounted for the Reds' first two tallies with a single in the third and triple in the sixth. Ken Griffey walked in the seventh and Johnny Bench was safe on an error by Mike Schmidt before the Reds put over their deciding pair on singles by Concepcion and Driessen. [The Sporting News]
