After failing to hold a 4-0 lead, the Braves scored in the 10th inning on singles by Gary Matthews, Junior Moore and Pat Rockett to defeat the Mets, 5-4. Vic Correll was charged with four passed balls in handling the knuckleball pitching of Phil Niekro, but none figured the in Mets' scoring.

Moore batted in two runs with a single and Jeff Burroughs hit a homer as the Braves built up their early lead. The Mets counted twice on a homer by John Milner and singles by Lee Mazzilli, John Stearns and Leo Foster in the seventh inning before tying the score in the eighth when Steve Henderson singled and Milner smashed his second round-tripper of the game.
