. . . where the 1970s live forever!

With two out in the ninth inning, Dan Driessen hit an inside-the-park homer and Johnny Bench followed with a smash over the fence to carry the Reds to a 6-5 victory over the Phillies, who suffered their fourth straight defeat. Homers by Mike Schmidt and Barry Foote accounted for the Phillies' first three runs before the Reds came back to tie the score with the aid of a round-tripper by Joe Morgan.

After the Phils went ahead again with a sacrifice fly by Bake McBride in the eighth, the Reds scored a matching run on a triple by Bob Bailey and single by Pete Rose. The Phillies then led for the last time when Richie Hebner hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth before Driessen circled the bases and Bench tagged Tug McGraw for the winning homer. [The Sporting News]
