Five homers, including consecutive inside-the-park blows by Toby Harrah and Bump Wills in the seventh inning, powered the Rangers to an 8-2 victory over the Yankees. Mike Hargrove, Wills and Bert Campaneris whacked pitches out of the park and Wills batted in another run with a single for a 4-2 lead going into the seventh. Then, with two men on base, Harrah smashed a drive against the right field wall. When Lou Piniella crashed into the fence trying for the catch, the ball bounced halfway back to the infield as Harrah circled the bases.

Wills followed with a drive to deep center off Mickey Rivers' glove for the second inside-the-park homer, marking the first time that any club had hit such back-to-back blows in A. L. history. The feat had been accomplished only once in the N. L. by Marv Rickert and Eddie Waitkus of the Cubs at old the Polo Grounds against the New York Giants June 23, 1946. [The Sporting News]
