The Dodgers scored two runs in the first inning and that was enough to beat the Cubs, 4-1, behind the pitching of Tommy John and relievers Lance Rautzhan and Mike Garman. Davey Lopes walked, stole second and came home on Bill Russell's single. Russell then stole second and scored on a single by Ron Cey. Reggie Smith clinched it with his 25th homer, a two-run blow in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
