The White Sox scored three runs in the third inning, two of them unearned on an error by Frank Duffy, and defeated the Indians, 3-1. With one away, the White Sox loaded the bases on a pass to Don Kessinger and singles by Brian Downing and Ralph Garr. Kessinger scored on a grounder by Chet Lemon and when Duffy booted the ball, Lemon was safe to reload the sacks.

After Jorge Orta struck out, Lamar Johnson lined a single to drive in Downing and Garr. Ken Kravec, pitching for the White Sox, was within one out of his first major league shutout before giving way under the Indians' threat in the ninth. Lerrin LaGrow relieved and gave up a single by Rico Carty, driving in the Indians' run, before Dave Hamilton came in to get the third out. [The Sporting News]
