Fred Lynn drove in three runs with a homer and sacrifice fly, while Rick Burleson accounted for two RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly, as the Red Sox halted the Athletics' six-game winning streak, 7-2. Denny Doyle, who collected four hits, doubled in the third inning and scored on a single by Burleson.

Lynn hit his homer after a single by George Scott in the fifth. Burleson's sacrifice fly added a run in the seventh and Lynn hit his scoring fly in the eighth when the Red Sox had doubles by Butch Hobson, Carl Yastrzemski and Doyle. [The Sporting News]
