The Cardinals were beaten by Bob Owchinko for the fourth time this season when the rookie received credit for the Padres' 7-4 victory, extending the Redbirds' losing streak to six games. The Cards started with two runs in the first inning on a walk by Rick Bosetti and homer by Garry Templeton, but the Padres rebounded with four in their half on four singles and a walk.

George Hendrick knocked in a pair with a single. Hendrick also doubled and scored on two ground balls in the third before accounting for his third RBI of the game with an infield out in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
