Carl Yastrzemski drove in one run and scored another to lead the Red Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Indians. The Red Sox got off to a two-run start in the first inning on doubles by Bernie Carbo and Fred Lynn and a single by Yastrzemski, who then doubled in the eighth and scored on a triple by Jim Rice. The Indians loaded the bases against Bill Lee with none out in the seventh but scored only one run on a sacrifice fly by Rico Carty. Jim Willoughby replaced Lee after Duane Kuiper singled with two out in the eighth and Reggie Cleveland took over to earn the save after Andre Thornton walked to open the ninth. [The Sporting News] |
